As the HS2 project progresses, there is a need for more open and transparent communication with all residents who are affected by it, and for an impartial monitor to oversee this.

The independent Residentsā€™ Commissioner, , makes sure that HS2 Ltd fulfils the commitments in the HS2 community engagement strategy.

The role also includes producing periodic reports and overseeing and monitoring HS2 Ltdā€™s obligations to the public as set out in the Residentsā€™ charter.

In addition, the Residentsā€™ Commissioner meets regularly with the Minister for HS2 and with the HS2 Ltd Chief Executive about emerging trends and concerns.

The role does not include:

  • investigating individual cases
  • acting as an arbitrator for individual resident concerns
  • dealing with complaints, except specifically with regard to small value disputes. Information about this can be found in
