UK and CONAP Strengthen Cooperation for Protected Area Conservation
British Ambassador, Juliana Correa, met with CONAP Executive Secretary, Igor De la Roca, to review ongoing conservation efforts and explore new areas of collaboration.

They discussed progress under the UK鈥檚 Biodiverse Landscapes Fund, including initiatives in the Maya Forest and Trifinio region, and the completion of a UK-funded project supporting indigenous communities in Alta Verapaz.聽
The establishment of the El Gavil谩n camp in Laguna del Tigre was highlighted as a key step in protecting the Maya Biosphere Reserve. They also explored opportunities linked to the Calakmul Biocultural Corridor Declaration, which connects Guatemala, Mexico, and Belize in the second-largest biodiversity corridor in the Americas.聽
Future actions include an October visit by representatives of the UK鈥檚 Department of Food, Agriculture and Environment (DEFRA), Guatemala鈥檚 participation in COP30, and CONAP鈥檚 proposal to the GEF to scale successful biodiversity and development initiatives.聽
The British Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to conservation and continued collaboration with CONAP and local partners.
