Green claims code: making environmental claims

Guidance for businesses making environmental claims in the UK

Documents

Details

This guidance helps businesses understand and meet their existing obligations under consumer protection law when making environmental claims.

It covers:

  • principles that are designed to help businesses comply with the law, and the legal framework they are based on
  • examples of how each of them applies
  • case studies where multiple principles apply

The guidance is not an exhaustive guide to making environmental claims. It covers areas that the Competition and Markets Authority considers most likely to be relevant and more likely to concern enforcement authorities.

This guidance is not legal advice. If you run a business, you are responsible for complying with the law.
