This direction has closed. A revised direction issued by the Department for Education on 2 March 2020 replaces it.
This revised direction requires the council to continue taking steps to improve its children鈥檚 social care services. This includes co-operating with the Department for Education鈥檚 appointed commissioner.
This direction follows an independent report by the Commissioner for Children鈥檚 Services in Surrey published on 31 October 2018. The report recommended that the council should retain the operational control of its children鈥檚 services.
The Department for Education appointed the commissioner following a that judged the overall effectiveness of Surrey鈥檚 children鈥檚 social care services to be inadequate.
