Smart meters provide a range of direct benefits to consumers. We have been monitoring those benefits since roll-out began.
This work is supported by independent research into the benefits being realised through the smart meter roll out and the experience of getting a smart meter. The first report into the experience of getting a smart meter was conducted in 2018 by using trained mystery shoppers, the second report was published in 2025 using convenience sampling to obtain a sample of domestic and non-domestic consumers.
