Guidance

Plan an endemic disease follow-up

For each species, you can have up to 3 follow-ups on any number of herds or flocks, as part of your IAHW agreement.

Applies to England

Plan a follow-up

This is the second part of the ‘Get funding to improve animal health and welfare’ service. It will include:

  • further assessment of diseases and conditions based on your review results (this is carried out on the same herd or flock of a species as the review and will help you better understand and prevent disease spread)
  • further advice on improving animal health, welfare and productivity

You can only do a follow-up on a herd or flock of a particular species after you have done an animal health and welfare review on that same herd or flock.

You must have an Improve Animal Health and Welfare (IAHW) agreement in place before you do a follow-up. You should provide your vet with your IAHW agreement number.

A follow-up usually takes between 2 and 3 hours. It can happen:

  • over several visits
  • in a single visit

When to have a follow-up

To be eligible to claim for endemic disease follow-ups you must:

  • have had a review which you should claim for first
  • have the follow-up on the same herd or flock of a particular species as the review
  • make sure the follow-up takes place no more than 10 months after your review
  • make sure that follow-ups on herds or flocks of a particular species, are always at least 10 months apart
  • for each species, have no more than 3 follow-ups on any number of herds or flocks by 19 June 2027
  • have an IAHW agreement in place before you do your first follow-up, including any sampling or testing
