Report a notifiable disease
Registered medical practitioners: report cases of suspected notifiable infectious diseases or manage an existing notification.

Use this service to:聽
- report a suspected case of a notifiable disease聽
- report any other suspected infectious disease that may present a significant risk to human health聽聽
- continue or manage existing notifications聽
You can use this service if you are:聽
- a 鈥痳egistered medical practitioner
- acting on behalf of a registered medical practitioner聽
It should take about 3 minutes.听
Before you start聽
Check which diseases are notifiable by law.
You鈥檒l need to know the:聽
- suspected disease and when symptoms started聽
- registered medical practitioner鈥檚 contact details聽
- patient consultation date and location聽
- patient鈥檚 details聽and contact information, or their parent or guardian鈥檚 details if they are under 18聽
You鈥檒l also be asked for the patient鈥檚:聽
- NHS number, if known聽
- ethnicity, if known聽
- overseas travel, if relevant聽
- occupation, if relevant聽
Sign in using an NHS.net or UK Health Security Agency email address.听
If the case is an urgent notifiable disease, you must also report it by telephone to your local 鈥�UKHSA health protection team.
When to report聽
Report as soon as possible, or within:聽
- 24 hours for urgent cases聽聽
- 3 days for routine cases聽
Do not wait for laboratory confirmation of the disease. By law, you must report any suspicion of a notifiable disease.
