Apply for an infected blood interim compensation payment as an estate
Overview
You may be able to claim compensation for the estate of someone who has died after receiving infected blood.
If you’re making a new claim on behalf of an estate, you can claim a single one-off payment of £310,000.
If the estate, the person who died, or their partner have already claimed £100,000 in interim compensation, the estate can make a further claim for £210,000.
You will not pay Inheritance Tax on this compensation and it will not affect any benefits you get.
You may also be able to claim compensation under the main Infected Blood Compensation Scheme. .
Legal costs
You must have probate (or confirmation in Scotland) to claim compensation.Â
You can claim back costs of applying for probate or confirmation if your claim is successful. This includes the cost of hiring a legal adviser.

There’s a different interim compensation scheme for bereaved partners. You can apply for a one-off payment of £100,000 by making an application to an existing UK Infected Blood Support Scheme instead.
